Pictures that didn't make it

Here are a few pictures of our time in Eureka. There is a marsh area that the county maintains with trails and a little visitors center. It was a good walk to take Pepper on. As most of you know we have moved to Yuba City at our daughters. Had some doctor visits to do. All is well. Clean bill of health for Jackie and I. My vision has become so good after the cataract removal that my old glasses were causing vision problems. I now have 20/20 in the left eye and 20/25 in the right without glasses. I got new lens even though I really don't need them. But by some correction and bifocals the vision is perfect. We are going to stay here a couple more weeks. A few things we want to do before going. Our plan is to leave this area on the 9th of Oct. and head south toward Jackie's brother, who lives near Ventura Ca. May make a stop along the way to Ventura and play golf with a friend (Carl) at Vandenberg AFB if our schedules work out. After John and Robin's visit on to a visit with Jackie's cousin in Riverside County. We will then head east and work our way to the east coast. No time line or route cast in stone. Just mosey to the Texas coast. Thinking we will be there for Christmas. Then continue on along the coast weather permitting to Florida. I know the blog really slows down while we are here but not much to post. Just doctor visits and not much else going on. I guess I will have to get out and stir up some action. Weather has been HOT!

Arcata Farmers Market

Arcata has one of the biggest and best farmers market we have ever been to. On Saturday they it in a plaza that is one block in size and the vendors are set up around the plaza. We got some amazing tomatoes and carrots. After shopping I took the veggies back to the truck and we just sat and people watched. Oh, and I had a few chicken wings, hot dog, pizza and just one taco. People watching is fatting!! More on the farmers market in next blog. We moved from the best weather 62-65 degree to the worst 105 in Yuba city yesterday. What a shock to the body. We haven't had any weather much over 80 in almost a year and for the past 2 months not over 70. Visting the kids and doctors. Not sure how long we will be here depends on doctor scheduling.

More of our visit to Arcata farmers market

The picture of the kids sitting and eating is our granddaughter with some of her friends. They gave her a ride to met us. After I took the picture and met them I told the boys now I have a picture of them, know their names and where they are from and if anything happens to Kayla I will be hunting them. They just stared at me with a concerned look on their faces until Kayla blew it and laughed at me. Besides all of the great veggies, it is an event in the plaza. There was a band playing on people of all ages were sitting around and enjoying the great weather. And no the two girls playing was not the band.

Short flight over Eureka

Jackie's brother John flew up for a short visit the other day. There is a small airport just outside of Eureka. The big problem in flying here is the fog. John does not fly instrument, so it has to be clear for him to land. The day he flew in the fog moved in. He has a gps system on his plane and knew where he was but had to circle the airport to find an opening where he could drop through the fog. After a successful landing we spent some time the next couple days sightseeing. John and I tried to fly but were only able to be up for a few minutes before the fog moved back in. But I got a couple pictures of a huge lumber mill next to the airport. That is all redwood stacked in the yard. The locals say most is ready to be shipped over seas. We have been staying at the Moose Lodge in Eureka. They have 5 acres on the edge of town and there are several deer that pass through the grounds almost everyday. They have passed by the rear of our trailer where we have a large window that Pepper can see out. She raises holly hell when they walk by. A buck and doe passed by within 10 foot of the trailer and she did not like that.

Redwoods

While Jackie's brother was here we took a short trip to the Avenue of the Giants. Along highway 101 near Eureka there is a 30 drive thru the redwoods. They have several easy hikes you can make where you can see some of the biggest trees. We took 3 separate hikes and visited the visitor center where they had a little museum that showed some of the history of this area.
