Went to see David Allen Coe on Wednesday, lets just say seeing him in parking lot was the best part of his show. He is 71 and walks with a cane and has lost his showmanship. They had 2 opening bands before him, the 1st was Dry County Drinkers, then Colonel Jimmy and the Blackfish (our son Clint plays in it). The 2 groups play alot around Sacramento and due shows together. Dry County Drinkers were scheduled to play 2nd but don't like to follow Colonel Jimmy, so they switched lineup. Dry County Drinkers are a traditional country band and play well but don't get the crowd excited. Colonel Jimmy and the Blackfish fire up the room. People yell, dance and party when they play. The crowd Wednesday did exactly that. When they came on 2nd the crowd went crazy, as my neice says they are hillbilly headbangers. Clint has self taught himself to play the mandelin and his grandfathers whould have been pround. Jackies dad gave him his 1st guitar and my dad taught him how to play guitar. Both granddad's wanted someone in the family with some musical talent. As for David Allen Coe, he came out and sat in a chair so he was hard to see. He sang alot of Waylon and Willie songs and a few of his. The main reason to see this old fart is the song "You Never Call Me By My Name"!! He sang for about an hour, got up and left without singing that song, he never even sang it, I wonder why he didn't sing, why he didn't sing that damn song. Sorry for that. But he did just get up and leave and the crowd stood there waiting for his to come back and encore or something. That was a $30 ripoff. David Allen Coe you old bastard. But we did have fun. Staying up past midnite though is not something I can get use to again...........Eye surgery went well, now have 20-20 vision in each eye and looks like I don't need glasses. The Doctor said just wait a few weeks and get a eye exam if I want then go from there. Not much else going on. Still plan on leaving here on the 6th of June and head to Oregon.
